They are trained and certified to provide assistance to a patient with personal care (as hygiene and exercise) and light household duties (as meal preparation) at home while monitoring their condition.

Individuals may need speech therapy after undergoing a stroke or traumatic injury that affects their ability to communicate via words. Regarding mechanics, it deals with exercises that strengthen the tongue and lips. For language, it helps in reconfiguring the ability to control pitch, articulation, fluency, and volume through conversation and games.

They typically have a master’s degree in social work and have studied sociology, growth and development, mental health theory and practice, human behavior/social environment, psychology, or research methods.
