When your body’s immune system senses the presence of abnormal food in your systems, it can trigger a food allergy. These allergic reactions can sometimes lead to severe illnesses or death. One of the leading causes for deadly allergic reactions are tree nuts and peanuts. In adults, the foods that commonly trigger allergic reactions include:
- Certain kind of seafoods like fish, crab, shrimp, or lobster
- Peanuts
- Tree nuts such as walnuts
- Eggs
As important as it is to learn more about food allergies, we must also understand that they are not the same as ‘food intolerance’. Although the symptoms might look and feel like those of food allergies, the immune system does not cause symptoms of food intolerance.
